Nate

Red-tailed Hawk

Nate was found by some young boys after he had fallen out of his nest. The boys kept Nate in a bathtub and fed him hot dogs and hamburgers hoping to help the little hawk grow up.

Unfortunately for Nate, the boys had found him at a pivotal age and did not know what kinds of food a young Red-tailed Hawk needs. As a result, Nate became imprinted and his bones became deformed due to nutritional deficiencies during such a crucial time of development.

Nate lived at another center for 15 years before returning to the Nature and Wildlife Discovery Center in 2017. There’s something else that makes this spunky boy so special: his feathers! Nate is piebald, referring to the white feathers mixed in with his darker plumage. Known affectionately as our Resident Bad Boy, Nate is treasured for his charm and his looks!
