Sun, Apr 17, 10am, Early Wildflower Hike Usually, by this date, nearly a dozen species of
wildflowers are already blooming in Pueblo Mountain Park, including kinnikinnick, mountain
bladderpod, and Nelson larkspur. Join us as we search for these flowery signs of spring.

Sat, May 14, 10am, Spring Wildflower Hike May is the month with the highest diversity of
wildflowers in bloom in the park. We’ll be hiking through several different ecosystems, looking for
and appreciating lots of the park’s flowers, including sugarbowl, senecio, wallflower, chiming bells,
wild onion – the list goes on and on!

Tues, Jun 14, 7pm, Full Moon Hike Yes, it’s the middle of the week, but why not get out
anyway to experience a magical late spring evening on MPEC’s first full moon hike of the year in
Pueblo Mountain Park. Please join us for a delightful evening excursion as day becomes night
underneath June’s “Strawberry Moon.”

Sat, Jun 18, 8am, South Creek Hike We continue our annual June tradition of hiking the
South Creek Trail from Highway 165 back to the park. This will be a full-day excursion in the
southern-most drainage of the Scraggy Peaks Roadless Area. Be sure to bring lunch, snacks,
plenty of drinking water, and dress for the weather (be prepared for rain). We’ll meet at MPEC and
carpool to the trailhead.

Sun, Jun 19, 8:00am, (Almost) Summer Solstice Birding Hike Pueblo Mountain Park is
breeding habitat for many birds, and we will be up early with the birds, looking – and listening – for
them. Bring along your field guides and your binoculars if you have them – if not, you can use ours. A
perfect way to welcome the summer season!

A guided hike in Pueblo Mountain Park in spring is a perfect way to hear Spring emerging on
the land. In fact, some folks think these spring months are the best months to hike in the park –
birds are melodically carrying out their breeding activities, wildflowers are at their peak, and
the winter skies are behind us.

MPEC has another great line-up of hikes during these lovely months. It is best to dress in
layers and wear good hiking shoes. Also bring along a water bottle and snacks on these
moderately strenuous hikes that are educational and fun.

Unless otherwise stated, most hikes last from two to three hours and are appropriate for
adults and children over 12. MPEC members free, non-members $5.

Listen, can you hear it? Spring's sweet cantata. The strains of
grass pushing through the snow. The song of buds swelling on the
vine. The tender timpani of a baby robin's heart. Spring.
