Adult Workshops

Adults can get in touch with nature by attending one of MPEC's many Nature
Workshops. Our workshops cover a variety of nature-related topics,
including natural landscaping, poetry, music, and hiking.

Thursdays, Aug. 12- Sept. 16, 6:30-8 pm Summer Session #2
of Yoga
at Mountain Park Environmental Center (MPEC) Beulah's very
own Debi Geller will be facilitating this wonderful yoga class at MPEC. Debi
is a certified yoga instructor, has been teaching for 10 years, and this
Anusara-inspired class is designed for all levels.
Cost will be $48 for all sessions for members ($56 for non-members),
payable to MPEC. Drop-ins as well as regulars are welcome, $10 per
session.

Thur, Aug 5, 7 pm Animals of South Africa Nature Talk at
Mountain Park Environmental Center (MPEC) In October, 2008, MPEC
member and supporter Nancy Thousand traveled to southern Africa on a
wildlife photography safari. Learn about her travels in Kruger National Park,
Addo Elephant Reserve and Chobe National Park and see many of the wild
creatures she photographed. This event is free, although donations are
welcomed and appreciated.

Sun, Aug 8, 9 am- Noon 4th Annual Pueblo Mountain Park
Butterfly Count
at Pueblo Mountain Park Environmental Center (MPEC)
Volunteers are needed to assist in the 4th Annual Mountain Park Butterfly
Count. Enjoy a morning out in nature and learn about butterflies. Mark
Yaeger of the Arkansas Valley Audubon Society will offer instruction and
guidance, so no experience is necessary. Bring close-focus binoculars
and/or a digital camera if you have them (although they are not necessary).
The collected data will be submitted to the North American Butterfly
Association for its annual report, which highlights habitat changes and
geographical distribution of butterfly species as a way to gauge the health of
the environment. Bring water and snacks, and dress for being in the sun.

Sat, Aug 14, 8:30-Noon Environmental Experiences for Early
Childhood
at Mountain Park Environmental Center (MPEC) Project
learning tree workshop. Participants will learn to integrate nature based
exploration, art, literature, math, music, movement, and outdoor play into
early childhood education programs. Experience activities that encourage
young children to explore the senses, the seasons, and neighborhood trees.
Activities highlight the importance of kinetic learning and engagement. The
cost is $25.

Fri, Sat, Sun, Aug 27-29 Weekend Yoga Retreat at Mountain
Park Environmental Center (MPEC) This fun retreat is appropriate for both
experienced and beginners. Teacher, Nancy Thousand, is a certified yoga
instructor and has been practicing for 35 years her practice and teaching
focus is on Anusara inspired yoga. A wide variety of yoga techniques and
fundamentals will be offered; including: restoratives, sun salutes, forward
bends, hip openers, twists, breath, and short meditations mixed with asana
for healing. Time for journaling and reflection will be included as well as a
guided hike and drum circle. Delicious vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals
are included, along with lovely nature-inspired overnight accommodations.
The cost includes the program, all meals from Friday dinner through Sunday
lunch, comfortable overnight accommodations): $335 to $375 double
occupancy (depending on room choice); $390 to $500 single occupancy
(depending on room choice). For full program minus overnight
accommodations: $250 (limited availability). Arrival times are between
3-5pm on Friday August 27. The retreat will conclude after lunch on Sunday
August 29.

Thur, Sept 9, 7-8pm Grassroots Land Preservation in the
Beulah Area
at Mountain Park Environmental Center (MPEC) Each year,
Colorado loses an estimated 90,000 acres of open space to residential and
commercial development. Historic farms and ranches shrink at a faster pace
than in any other state in the nation. You are invited to join MPEC and
Palmer Land and Trust for a two-session educational series to learn about a
grassroots effort aimed at protecting the most important private lands near
Beulah and across southeastern Colorado. The Thursday evening session
will provide an overview of the mechanisms that are used to permanently
conserve properties in the region, highlighting a handful of the major land
preservation initiatives taking place today. This event is free although

Sun, Sept 19, 6-7:30 pm, Equinox Drum Circles at Mountain Park
Environmental Center (MPEC) Sticking with our popular tradition of
drumming in the change of the seasons, acknowledges the turn from
summer to autumn at evening drum circle at MPEC. Bring your own drums,
or use one of ours. This will be an informal gathering to enjoy our own
creative rhythms as the natural world plays out its own rhythms represented
by the cycling of the seasons! This festivity will be held at MPEC in Beulah
(weather permitting we will be outside - dress accordingly, bring bug
repellant.
There is no cost for this event but donations are always appreciated.
