Environmental Educator Assistant
Summer 2008

The Environmental Educator Assistant is a contract part-time position that will work with MPEC’s full-time educators in facilitating the award-winning Earth Studies program. Earth Studies is an outdoor-based academic program for 5th grade students and takes place throughout the entire school year (September through June). The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in one or more of the following: environmental education, interpretation, recreation, education, biology, natural resources, or a related field AND three years experience in teaching at a nature center, science center, zoo, park, museum, or school. Appropriate life and work experience and / or non-traditional and alternative education may be considered in place of traditional university education. A love for children and the outdoors a must. This position requires excellent physical health, able to hike several miles a day on mountain trails in all kinds of weather. Must have strong interpersonal skills and be a team player. Good communication skills and the ability to work well with other employees is required. Training will be provided.

Hours: Flexible, up to five days per week (weekdays only),
5.5 hours per day

Salary: Hourly, $10 - $11 per hour on a contractual basis
