Development Director

The Mountain Park Environmental Center is an award winning 501c3 non-profit based in Beulah, Colorado with a mission of providing environmental education programming. The Development Director is a permanent position, and negotiable as to part time (24 – 32 hours per week) or full-time status. This position is responsible for the organization’s fund raising efforts. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years experience in fund raising responsibilities for non-profit agencies AND a minimum of a bachelor's degree in non-profit management, business administration or a related field. Appropriate life and work experience and / or non-traditional and alternative education may be considered in place of traditional university education. Must have strong interpersonal skills and be capable of establishing a close working relationship with government, business and foundation representatives, as well as with organization donors, members and other community members. Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and people skills, ability to work well with other employees, and exceptional organizational skills is required. Demonstrated success in developing and implementing comprehensive fund raising plans and systems to support fund raising required. Familiarity with environmental and education issues a plus.
Responsibilities may include the following:
- Participate in preparation of annual operations budget and budgets for capital projects and other special projects.
- Work with Director and Board in developing, coordinating and implementing an overall fund-raising plan for the organization.
- In consultation with Director, develop, refine and implement comprehensive plan for corporate and foundation fund-raising
- Conduct donor research, gift processing, donor database maintenance, and contracts and agreements with funders.
- Develop, implement and manage membership campaigns and other fund-raising efforts directed towards members.
- Develop, implement and manage efforts for major donors, planned giving, and other fund raising strategies.
- Be part of the team involved in a major renovation of the historic Horseshoe Lodge into the organization’s new headquarters, interpretive center and retreat center.
- Research appropriate government, corporate and foundation grants for program support, general operating and special projects.
- Write government, corporate and foundation grants including meeting deadlines and fulfilling all interim and final report requirements of grants.
- Be a visible, articulate and trusted member of a small, progressive and vibrant organization with an excellent reputation for quality programs and efficient administration.
- Represent the MPEC at meetings of civic and other community organizations.
- Assist Director and other appropriate staff in preparing program budgets as needed.
- Assist with public relations, advertising, special events and other projects as needed.
- Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Director.
